The biggest shift in content in 2025? MORE storytelling and sharing your journey.
And I am here for it!!!
This is something I’ve been talking about everywhere—on social media, inside The Reels Lab, and on my podcast. For years, we’ve been hyper-focused on “providing value” through educational content, but in the process, we’ve moved away from talking about ourselves—our experiences, our why, our story.
If you’re thinking, “Why does that matter?” or “but what about providing VALUE?” Let me tell you, there is power and value in sharing your journey, it’s not selfish because people don’t just buy from you because of what you offer, they buy WHY you do it.
And nothing builds trust, connection, and engagement faster than sharing your story.
I have to share this Reel that I’m completely obsessed with because it shows this concept so well.
Here’s why it went crazy.
She was intentional in her storytelling that highlighted her core values, her journey, and why she does what she does.
And guess what? People LOVED it!
⭐️ It builds trust. Your audience gets to see you, the person behind the business.
⭐️ It creates emotional connection. Your story makes your brand more relatable and helps your followers to see themselves in your story and form a deeper connection.
⭐️ It reinforces your brand values. By sharing your “why,” you remind your audience what you stand for.
Try it for yourself: How to Create a Storytelling Reel
No fancy edits or equipment need. Record some B-roll and add a strong message. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1️⃣: Capture B-Roll of You in Your Element
Set up your camera, hit record, and capture some simple footage of yourself working, creating, walking, cooking, etc. Don’t overthink it.
Step 2️⃣: Storytelling Ideas – Choose a Prompt
Now that you have your footage, let’s work on the on-screen text.
Option 1:
POV: You were tired of ____ [ex: not being able to find ___ in the grocery store/searching high and low for ____] so you _____ [ex: made one yourself/started a business to ____].
Option 2:
____ [ex: 5 years/6 months] ago I _____ [ex: started a ____ business/opened a ____ in ____ (city)] in order to ______ and now _____ [insert outcome. ex: 500 of you have bought it].
Step 3️⃣: Share It!
Once your video is ready, post it with a short but powerful caption reinforcing your journey. Encourage engagement by asking your audience if they can relate or if they’ve experienced something similar.
