I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news? You’re in luck if you came here for insightful 2024 social media marketing predictions.
The bad news? You’ll need to look elsewhere if you’re looking for “guru-esque” trends and tactics.
In today’s post, I’ll share 4 social media marketing predictions for 2024 you need to know.
Here’s the thing, though. These aren’t new ideas. They’re timeless marketing strategies that have withstood the test of time (and every algorithm).
These strategies work for every type of business – not just guru content creators who had a few viral reels and decided to sell a social media course.
So, let’s get 2024 started on the right foot (without fly-by-the-night tactics and trends.) Let’s start with my favorite: storytelling.
Storytelling
If you spend time on social media, you know there is a lot of noise.
According to WordStream, there are more than 200 million businesses on Instagram, and they’re all vying for attention.
This is why stories are so important; they have an incredible ability to capture the attention of your people, and Donald Miller, author of “Building a Storybrand,” agrees.
“Story is the one thing that can hold a human being’s attention for hours,” he said.
What does this mean for your content? Instead of telling your audience how your product or service will improve their lives, you must show them through stories.
For example, don’t share the features of your product or service; instead, share the story of a recent client win.
Here are a few examples of how to use Storytelling on Instagram:

Connection
Since I started my business in 2013, I have consistently reminded my clients and community that social media should be social.
Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, etc., are places for people to connect and build a community.
And that’s why I predict that content that creates engagement and authentic connections will again take center stage.
What will make for engaging content in 2024?
- Common, shared experiences
- Nostalgia
- Conversation starters
- Introduction posts/reels
- Sharing the people behind the brand
And here’s the thing: this doesn’t have to be complicated! For example, check out this super simple Reel.
Why did this work? She asked a basic question she knew would start conversations in her comments. The result? More than 10 million views and, more importantly, 17K+ comments.
The best part? She didn’t need a degree in video production to pull this off!
You should share engaging content everywhere, but Instagram Stories is where this type of content shines. Use features such as polls, the slider sticker, and quizzes to increase engagement even more.
Empathy
Similarly, empathy content that helps your audience feel seen, heard, and understood will continue to play a major role in successful 2024 content strategies.
This type of content typically taps into the pain points of your ideal client and positions you as the person or brand that understands their struggles and can help them overcome their challenges.
Here’s a great example of empathy content that recently took off on my Instagram account:
Thought Leadership
As I mentioned in this blog post, your content must establish you as an expert.
How can you build authority on social media? Create content that establishes you as a thought leader.
Share a hot take, random thought, or unpopular opinion.
The best part? This type of content often leads to a deeper connection with your community!
Here’s a great example of a “talk to camera Reel” that builds authority.

BONUS: Your 2024 Content Strategy
Want to get 2024 started on the right foot? Here’s how ⤵️
First, do market research. Choose a few people you admire in your field and check out the comments on their posts.
Take note of what people are asking (and how the content creator replies) to understand what they’re looking for and what content they love.
Next, nail down your ideal client’s pain points and desires, along with a list of words your target audience uses.
Then, create a bank of ideas based on the 4 Hs:
- Helpful: these are hot takes and useful, bite-sized, doable tips.
- Humor: content that’s funny and relatable to your audience
- Heard: moving stories that help your audience feel seen and heard.
- Happenings: behind-the-scenes content that invites your audience into your world
Finally, aim to post each type of content once a week, keeping these tips in mind:
- Use 20-30 hashtags and keywords to categorize your content
- Engage for at least 30 minutes a day
- Share 3 behind-the-scenes Stories each day
To Sum It Up
Your 2024 Content strategy doesn’t have to be complicated. Your people want to feel seen and heard, so give them what they want!
Share content that …
- Tells stories
- Creates connection
- Shows empathy
- And establishes you as a thought leader
